Design Inspiration:

Butterfly effect in chaos theory: "The unpredictable influence of a small change in interconnected systems causing a chain reaction and significant effect on a small or large global scale." 

The Butterfly is the central inspiration for life, freedom, transformation and hope,

twinned with its symbiotic relationship with flowering plants. The randomised wire patterns of the Titanium and Platinum combined with the multi wearing combinations all link to chaos theory.

Bespoke fixings allow the wearer to change components on each ear according to mood or occasion.  This could be challenging a chaotic world to respond to the wearer’s choice or reinforcing butterfly-flower dependency; attraction and lasting consequences.

Materials:

A Diorama display case emphasizes the fragility of our world and is made from an oak base with a bare twisted titanium and copper wire tree. Various foliage examples and a small silver mouse with black diamond eyes, holding a 'ruby' berry represents nature as it meets new challenges.

Butterfly:

Outer shape: Square cross-section Platinum wire.

Wings: Gold wire detail with 2 x bezel set 2.8mm round diamonds.

Body: Marquise cornflower blue sapphire, bespoke claw set.

Flower:

Petals: Blued titanium with untreated titanium wire inner lattice.

Centre: Platinum with 5 marquise diamonds (6x3mm); 1 round cornflower blue sapphire (6mm), claw set.

Small globe:

Platinum wire framework

4mm yellow sapphire set in 18ct Gold V mounts.

Large globe:

Platinum wire framework

6mm yellow sapphire set in 18ct Gold V mounts.

Fixings: Two hand-drawn, hardened Platinum wire loops providing strength. One end of each can be screwed into the flower or large globe. Other ends are laser welded to the small globe and butterfly.
